Studio Tour: Handmade by Ify/Iffy Jewellery

I have finally taken some pictures of my home studio! It has taken quite a while to get it into that 'studio' type kind of environment, where it is organised, and everything is easily accessible. Because it is in the attic as well, so it's kind of a dumping ground for everyone else's stuff. I love it there, it's my creative cave.

I am a MASSIVE hoarder- I never like to throw away anything, because I always feel guilty! Everything always has it's place in my attic. I would say it definitely describes my style, which is very mish-mash and random, although it works for me, and it's how I function! My inspiration comes from colours mostly, but also by my random and somewhat eclectic taste in music, such as indie, a little bit of heavy metal, hip hop and pop- see how random my choices are?

This is my sewing station! I have gone through MANY sewing machines in the past 3 years that I have been running my business, and this is my newest one- I've had it since September last year, and it sews beautifully. ;). I also use my computer to edit pictures for etsy, but there's no internet on there yet, so I just stick to my laptop when it comes to listing new products, so it doesn't totally feel like an office yet!

This is my overlocker! I've had it for a few months, and it is quite a cool machine to use! I love it cos it makes my work look so much more professional. I've had to self-teach myself how to use it though, because I've never used one before, so it has taken me a while, but I love it! Oh and that slightly scary head in the background? I made that back in college when I was 17. It was one of my few pieces that had ignited my creativity, artistically.

Here is my jewellery desk, where I super glue, drill, sand down and recycle and make jewellery pieces for both Handmade by Ify and Iffy Jewellery. I always aim to create something that is lovely and quirky, and would add an extra gorgeous-ness to your outfit with minimal effort!

I hope you've liked my little tour! :)

New line: Iffy Jewellery

Hi everyone,

I've just opened up a new store, called Iffy Jewellery. It would be awesome if you took the time to check it out! :).

I have hand dyed, woven and constructed these pieces myself at my time in University, so these are 100% handmade and unique.

I didn't particularly like the fabric that it was supposed to be before, but then I envisioned them to be amazing jewellery pieces, which is why I've made them into cute things. They are, however, in limited quantities, so snap them up whilst you can!

What I've been up to in pictures.

Celebrating my awesome friends birthday. We went to Tinseltown in Oxford Circus, and it was lovely, I even got a free dessert because of the fact that my 2nd meal didn't come. :)

Photo: Relaxing timesssss :) http://instagr.am/p/LL4IuNGXl_/

Me and my awesome friend went to Brighton for the day... awesome relaxing times :).

Selling in Camden- awesome times despite the sunburn that I'm STILL recovering from, lol.

I have started my new line, which is called Iffy Jewellery. It will feature all my woven textiles and turned into awesome jewellery! I wanted to take a more professional and personal path to my business so this is why I have done it, as well as pushing my passion for jewellery making! :).

Shop Updates

I have even more stuff in my shop! I've noticed that over half of my stock there is jewellery so I'm trying to balance that out with clothes again! I wish I could make clones of myself so that I can make lots of lovelies for you all to enjoy :).

Much Love Mondays: Jigsaw Lane

Hey loveliessss.

Today, I'm writing about my new addition of my long list of fave jewellery designers- Jigsaw Lane. I love the quirky, yet edgy nature of these pieces, and they are so budget friendly! I'm still quite poor at the moment (living off my last ever student loan, haha!) but I know that I would snap up more pieces when I have some money spare.

Here is one I bought recently:

It is sooo cool; it makes a statement, yet so simple!

Here are a few of my faves from her shop:

New Updates, via Instagram.

Hi lovely people!

I'm so sorry that I have been neglectful lately... I have been enormously stressed and under a lot of pressure with the last few weeks of Uni, with my last ever project. I know I've promised I'll write more blog posts, but sometimes... when push gets to shove, you have to prioritize.

Here's what I've been doing, in random order:

- Making new jewellery! So excited to be making jewellery again after my 2-week absence away from my tools. I think I'm getting more and more quirky with my pieces. I'm doing this especially, because me and my awesome friend, Saxon are selling together again- but this time, in Camden! I've sold there with another friend but they didn't sell that well, because I guess I just rushed everything, so I've done things properly and started stocking up on more jewellery pieces, or things that I could transform into jewellery, which is why I haven't stocked up on any clothes lately, but rest assured lovely people, I have made some new clothes and they will be in the shop by next week ;)

- Sewing away in my creative cave. I have been making new bags that are made from a mixture of recycled fabrics and fake suede to make some new bags for the shop. I'll be making more when time allows.

- This is what I do at Uni! I specialise in woven textiles, and for my project, it was based on the inspiration of fish in the aquarium from the Horniman Museum, London... and I'm currently weaving my final pieces- it is NOT easy, it's full of tangles and messes and thread breakages. I think I've put on a dress size cos of my overeating from the stress of this course, haha (I know, excuses, excuses, right!?)

- I cut my hair! It wasn't anything dramatic, but I was doing my monthly relaxer treatment on my hair, and when I was blow drying my hair, I noticed that my hair fell out in the middle section... and I was kinda upset, but then I thought... it's only hair! It WILL grow again! And so, I grabbed a pair of scissors and hacked at it. I'm a little crazy for doing this, but I can still just about tie my hair, and I can wear my hair down too now, so I'm a happy girl!

Enough rambling from me, but I hope everyone has an  awesome weekend... and if by any chance anyone is in Camden in London around 26th May, come and find myself and my friend selling our jewellery... and maybe you can snap up a piece before I sell any leftovers at my shop?

Lots of love,

Katherine xo
